Back in July I blogged about the Minnesota History timeline I set up on Dipity. We now have 131 "events" posted, some with photos from our Photo and Art Database. We are trying to link the photos back to the database. Plus we're starting to add in each description links directly to 1) a Minnesota History Topic, if there is an appropriate one, or some other MHS page, and 2) a saved search in the Photo and Art Database showing that we have more images available.
An interesting thing happened when we went over 500 "views"—they started adding advertising from Google Ads on each of the individual events, if there was something that could be tied to that event. For example, the event on the completion of the Abbey Church at St. John's University has had ads for Catholic Church services, Trappist Monks' bread, and Scientology. The Truckers' Strike of 1934 has had ads for local labor unions and for a firm that will replace striking workers!
Another interesting observation: if you use the "Full Screen" view, you don't get the ads!
