Following are some tidbits I found interesting and you might too (or you might already know them).
Browser Shortcuts for Smoother Surfing
This came from the e-newsletter my ISP [commercial here] sends out, so I don't think I can link you right to it, but it's a short list. The intro was: "Save time and effort on the web by using your keyboard. Here are some popular keyboard shortcuts that work on most recent browsers."
- Arrow keys: Scroll the page up or down
- Home key: Go to the top of the web page you're on
- End key: Go to the bottom of the web page you're on
- Alt + left arrow: Back to the previous web page
- Ctrl + T: Open a new browser tab **** I really like this one!
- Ctrl + + (plus key): Make font larger
- Ctrl + - (minus key): Make font smaller
- Ctrl + F: Search for keywords on the web page you're on
- Ctrl + R: Reload the page
- Ctrl + P: Print the page
- Esc: Stop loading the page **** I really like this one, too!
About Article Tools
The thing I liked the best about the "How Instant Messaging Works" article linked in Thing 7 was actually the "About Article Tools" article telling you about the Print, Email, Cite, and Feedback icons, and the del.icio.us, Furl, Squidoo, etc., icons. I can especially see real use for the Cite icon in our library: "If you'd like to cite an article for a school assignment or your own web site, you can get all of the necessary information in a concise format that you can cut and paste" is how it's described. Very useful, especially on our Minnesota History Topics pages.
